more recent work

an old friend Whitney McChane started her own company in Minnesota where she now resides. This woman knows marketing and is pretty much always on the go. In fact, she and her man just bought a house which can be seen here throughout its restoration. This is a lovely MCM home which has a pretty cool history. Not only that, but only days ago she got married and is off on her honeymoon in Paris. La Vie!

On one of her many sides, she runs a site called Bridesmaid Bar Crawl. She didn't really have a logo for it and for the record, the site is a work in progress (like I said, Whitney is a very, very busy woman). The purpose of this business is to give the girls in a wedding party a night of drankin.' It's a pub crawl but with added discounts at local shops and fun things like dress up in reclaimed (read- bad) bridesmaid dresses for the night. It's a more feminine night of drinking. Hopefully we get to working on some products and packaging for soon to be brides and maids games and costumes.

My original idea was to wed the logo with the website so that it was essentially showing you, hey, i'm drinking tonight, not getting married hence the lack of interest in a bouquet.

Well, it was cool but she needed something a bit more single panel so I took the common theme of said bouquet and made it about the night. Familiar bottles of alcohol neatly placed throughout a bouquet of roses. Illustrated a few roses and cloned them. Adding a simple font (Wendy LP Bold). It's sorta Mid Centuryish but feminine so i was hoping she would key on it and did. A simple reflection inside the font lets me pizzazz it up as I really like doing this with typography. This gives it a kind of nightlife neon look to it that I thought would fit with a bar crawl. It's fun to draw these things up and think it is an effective and appropriate logo for the company.

I wish Whitney and her new husband Robert McChane a long and happy life and hope they keep collaborating. They've done some really cool stuff thus far in their relationship.

Some recent logography.

A close friend of ours deals antiques and art. He needed to update his business card and wanted a fresh logo for invoicing and paperwork (heh, paperwork). I did a few comps and the one that was chosen was the first comp and i think the classiest design. It's simple but lasting. The others were a bit more dynamic but I don't think that the look would work since he doesn't deal solely in streamline moderne which is where I plucked comp 2 from. Red, white and black is a lovely combination, (safe yes, but effective) and a classic font like avant garde.

comp 1 (final logo)

comp 2

Given this was done on a Saturday morning as he had to leave for a trip and still get his media printed. The first was what we felt was the best but he wanted an additional comp and that is what I came up with along with a couple more that just did not feel as "right" as these two.

Lets go this way.

I'm going to try something a little bit different. If you subscribe or follow on any of the social media sites, we're going to keep doing shirts (as often as I do them, which isn't often as of late.) I have plenty of ideas for them, and have some mostly designed but I need to get back to this design gig. Feel free to unfriend, or dislike, or whatever it is that kids are inventing for internet ostricizing. Here I am going to showcase what I have been doing. I will make it so that you can see the lovely things I am creating. From not only my brand, but where I have been since I became a designer. It's been different paths and it's been difficult, but I think this journey has taught me a lot as well as humble me. I want to bring that into the context of design and what I have learned; how I have evolved. One has to in this economy or Darwin will weed you out. I've been doing sign painting and that has helped me get back to my roots. I have been working in grocery as that has kinda helped me pay bills.

My goal is mostly self promotion, with dashes of insights and cool things that I see. I want to make it public to those that would want to use my talents and versatility. I'm talkative and sometimes I ramble but like the turtle, steady wins the race albeit not really slowly. I don't do slow, there is too much to experience. I have some youth left and I intend to use it to get me to the place on the mountain/ladder/path that I belong. I won't step on anyone getting there. I just wish to work, hard, and turn out a good product.

So with that being said. Check it out. There will still be stuff to buy. I have to get back into screening so that will still be a big part of what I'm doing here. We can collaborate, please. Seed the pond with ideas and we can produce them. I will link to some of the people I have been watching and following so you can get a good idea if my taste is good or not but it's been a while from writing and it has to be done. (this is where people eliminate me from copywriting)
